THE ARTS & CIVICS TABLE ORGANISATION
We are working to make a difference in the quality of civic engagement among citizens, and between citizens and government.
Our aim is to encourage and develop a civic engagement culture that would facilitate citizen participation in the social, cultural and political processes in our communities. We promote awareness of political, personal, and civic rights and responsibilities and facilitate individual and collective action by identifying, discussing, debating and addressing issues of public concern.
We encourage the use of satire, parody, sarcasm, and humour as tools for criticism, to ensure that we all can make our points without making enemies. This we do through various arts, civics, and culture events.
We keep our communities connected by promoting the use of social media as a tool for civic engagement.
…and what is civic engagement? It is what Thomas Ehrlich defined as “working to make a difference in the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes.”
